Smoothies can be a sweet treat. But some smoothie drinks are high in calories and low on nutrition. Solve the problem by making your own super healthy energy food smoothies with these easy, delicious recipes and tips:
To easily prepare any smoothie, first do some prep work and keep these tips in mind:
- Invest in a blender with at least an 800-watt motor for best blending.
- Plants are most nutrient-dense when they are at the peak of their season. So use the freshest, in-season organic ingredients you can for your smoothies.
- Cut chunks of fruit or veggies ahead of time and keep them in a freezer bag, or juice them and freeze them in ice cube trays. When it's time to make a smoothie, just pop out the cubes into your blender.
- When greens or veggies start to wilt, don't throw them out. Chop them and store them until you're ready to throw them into a blended drink.
- Greens stay fresher when unbundled and laid loosely on a paper towel or paper bag in your refrigerator.
- Add liquids and yogurts first to get the blender moving. Add powders and small seeds like hemp or chia seeds into the liquid so they get absorbed and you don't lose them to the bottom of the blender. Then, add the rest of your ingredients.
