Today’s physicists tell us that matter, as we’re used to thinking of it, doesn’t really exist. At the most basic level, everything in the world is comprised of energy.
What does that mean? What is energy?
All the different materials that make up our world – the elements listed on the periodic table – are all made up of atoms. The particles that make up atoms – protons, neutrons, and electrons – are condensed
forms of energy that interact with each other and give rise to an element’s characteristics.
What does that mean? What is energy?
When you touch any solid object in the world – a wooden table or an apple, for example – you are really just touching energy that has been condensed into a particular form. A table or rock may seem hard to touch, but really that’s just an illusion created by the energetic forces of the object pushing against particles that make up your hand.
Modern physicists tell us that all particles are really just vibrating energy. In fact, everything you see around you is actually made up of empty space. The atoms that create matter are made up all of energy. That means that you too are made up of energy, same as the Earth, the sun, the moon, and the stars.
Why is energy important? Energy is important because it’s what makes everything go.
Energy powers machines and moves our bodies. It is exchanged in every interaction. Energy is the unseen force necessary for growth, development, and change.
In the body, energy provides vitality. Most of the ancient cultures of the world have some concept of life energy. The aborigines of Australia, for example, call it “joja.” Hindus in India who study Ayurveda call it “prana.” Even early scientists searched for something they called “elan vital,” an invisible force giving rise to life.
According to holistic health views, having an “energy system” that is working properly is the key to health—not only physical health, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual health, which are connected to each other through the functions of the nervous and endocrine systems.Energy makes up your body and mind, and it is the mode of communication between the two.
In the East, people have long believed that life energy flows through all things in the universe. They have studied this energy over thousands of years and have deduced a set of rules and principles by which this life energy operates.
Keys to the Importance of Energy:
1. Our body’s energy system is inherently perfect.
2. There are specific energy principles that govern our energy system.
3. The different physical and spiritual problems confronting us develop because the perfect operation of our energy system becomes impaired.
4. All of the problems confronting us can be solved if we can just restore that energy system to its original, healthy state. According to the principles of energy, this means that the energy in our bodies must circulate well. It doesn’t matter whether those problems involve physical, emotional or even spiritual issues.
When you understand what energy is, how energy works and how to manage it, then, you can choose your thoughts and emotions, and therefore your actions and interactions. Learning how to manage energy means learning how to manage your life.
In the next few blog posts, I’ll paint a clear picture of the energy principles at work in your life and how you can make them work for you. Stay tuned till next week.
