Maybe you’ve never thought of yourself as the ‘religious’ type yet you still crave a connection to something bigger than yourself and the world around you. Whether you want to feel more inspired in your work or more passionate about your community service, visionary, intuitive Crown Chakra is the place to look to find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Spirituality isn’t just having your head stuck in the clouds. Spirituality can often be found on the ground, hiding in plain sight in our daily, very human lives.
Crown Chakra can help you see that, for much of your life, you’ve probably already been on a spiritual path. Foster parenting, running an animal rescue shelter, teaching art classes, tutoring children to read, community gardening, volunteering at a food bank...all of these, and more, can be spiritual endeavors if you came to them through a sense of calling and not obligation.
Putting your energy into others' lives or the world around you creates connection and a sense of higher purpose. In fact, any time you give your energy or attention to others without an expectation of reward, it can be considered a spiritual practice.
With a spiritual practice, we can align our outer aspirations with our inner world. It allows us to feel anchored in the world even as we test waters outside our routines.
You don’t have to sit in silence, meditating hours on end to be spiritual. Take time to reflect on your daily life for just a few minutes. Beyond the busyness of errands, chores and work schedules, what you do with your free time tells you what is most important to you.
A spiritual practice makes it easier to accept what happens in the outside world without it disturbing our inner peace and purpose. It also empowers us to look to our internal guides and strengths rather than feeling controlled by an impersonal, external authority such as an organized religion. When we cultivate our unique, personal spirituality, our lives tend to transcend outer circumstances and become richer with meaning and purpose.
Here is an exercise you can do to discover or develop a spiritual practice:
Dream Journal for Spiritual Living
Dream journaling helps open and develop all the chakras but is especially useful for connecting with your Crown Chakra. Journaling helps you stay grounded so you can convert your dream world into practical application in your waking life.
The first thing to do is find a notebook or diary that’s dedicated to writing down your dreams. You don’t have to limit your journaling to nighttime dreams. Daydreams count too!
Keep your notebook by your bedside so you can jot down any words or images from your dreams as soon as you wake up, when they are still sharp in your memory. Bring your journal with you during the day so you can review what you wrote and to fill in details as you remember throughout the day.
Notice any common or recurring symbols, dream ‘characters’ and sensations. This will help you identify areas in your life where you can increase or deepen your spiritual awareness and apply it to your daily activities.
(For the person wanting to develop their intuition, dream journaling is an excellent practice for opening the Third Eye, too.)
