Have you ever lain there, full of despair, covered in sadness, with nowhere and no one to turn to? Perhaps as you writhed in your misery, a soft voice, a small glimmer, started to come out from your heart. It said, “Don’t worry. Everything is okay. You will be alright.” And from that moment, you were not alone. You knew you would always be okay, and you had the courage to go on. Even if you didn’t know how or why, you instinctively felt a destination to which your life was heading and knew you could get there.
That small voice inside your heart is what I call the soul. In and from the soul, there is always hope.
Your soul is always there, comforting and encouraging you, whenever you want to listen to it. There are many techniques to connect to your soul and uncover your hope, yet at the same time there is no technique. The important thing is to listen, to concentrate on the center of your chest, where your soul is housed in your body, and listen.
To make it easier to hear your soul’s wisdom, do exercises and meditations that circulate your energy.
Bowing is a good exercise for this, as well as tapping your chest while
vocalizing, “Ahh.” Holding
cobra posture for 5 to 20 minutes is also helpful because it opens the meridians that run along the center of your body and because it releases any fear stored in your kidneys that may be blocking your circulation.
Having a steady and constant connection with your soul is so important that I developed Bird of the Soul Training. I included it in my latest book,

Because you can look inside yourself at any time and find the hope in your soul, hope is a choice you make. By connecting with your soul and choosing hope, you can change your energy and with it your entire outlook. What seemed impossible becomes possible. The actions and circumstances of the past loose their power and influence. The present becomes perfect.
When the connection with your soul, which is what I consider your
true self, is strong and stable enough, you can feel deeply satisfied with yourself and your life, even as you take steps to change—not because you are bad or are a failure or there is something wrong with you, but because growth and change brings you joy and fulfillment. Growth and change are an expression of your soul’s nature and desire. They are a necessary part of the journey your soul wants to take.
Your soul knows the path and the destination for its journey. It knows how to lead you to your purpose and a joyful existence. If you want to be a part of it instead of ignoring and resisting it, I suggest paying attention to your soul often—every moment you can. Walking hand in hand with your soul, never alone and always supported and guided, your life can become greater than you ever imagined.
Although suffering is part of the human condition, by choosing hope and learning to listen to your soul, you will not have only suffering. Even when things are hard, even when you have pain, you will also have certainty, fulfillment, and a glowing satisfaction.
