Energy is neither created nor destroyed; it morphs from one form to another and flows from one entity to another. It can be dormant as potential energy or active as kinetic energy—it’s either doing something or waiting to do something.
There are many physical laws and formulas that describe how energy works. For the sake of managing your life, however, you can think of energy as being pure or impure and of energy as something that accumulates, releases, and circulates.
For example, in your body, energy is taken in through food, inhalation of air, and the many points along your skin that are used in acupuncture. It is released through these same points, as well as through exhalation, secretion, and elimination of waste. Energy circulates through your body through energy channels, or
meridians. It tends to flow down the front of your body and up the back of it. Energy can become “dirty” with disease or negativity, or it can be “clean” with lightness and vitality.
The “energy system” of your body consists of these energy points and channels, as well as energy centers called
chakras. Because energy connects body and mind, each part of the energy system is associated with different parts of the body, emotions, and/or personality traits. For instance, your
gallbladder meridians, which are located on the sides of your body, are associated with the emotions of anger and resentment, the gallbladder, face, skin, legs, and ears, as well as decision-making, judgment, courage, and initiative. Your
second chakra in your lower abdomen is associated with physical strength and endurance, appetite, libido, fertility, emotions, and sense of purpose.
When your energy system is full of pure energy that circulates without impedance, that’s when it’s working well. Often there are parts of the system where the energy becomes sluggish, dirty, low, or weak. The traits associated with these parts then experience negative effects. In the case of having blocked or low energy in your second chakra, you may experience symptoms such as fatigue or jealousy. Releasing stuck energy and accumulating pure energy in your second chakra would reverse these symptoms.
The same idea of accumulation, release, and circulation of energy applies outside of your body. To achieve a goal, you need to release any blocks that are impeding it such as negative self-talk, lack of resources, or fear of obstacles. You also need to accumulate pure energy by aligning your thoughts and emotions with your goal and circulate energy toward your goal by taking action. To have a successful relationship, you need to release any blocks to the relationship such as negative past experiences and harmful habits. You need to accumulate pure energy by making yourself secure and happy, and then circulate it by having meaningful and heartfelt interactions with the other person.
