Emotions, just like everything else in the universe, are made of energy.
Sensing the ki-energy (vital life force) that is constantly coursing through you body will help you recognize an emotional wave when it comes and more easily connect to your ki-energy to ground down for the ride.
From happiness to fear, anxiety to jealousy, these waves are powerful forces that sometimes cloud the mind and make it hard to think clearly.
In Eastern energy practices, the emotions are seen as something to rise above and experience with an observer’s mind rather than become actively involved in. This does not mean we should emotionally detach from ourselves or others, rather it is about knowing how to manage the waves of emotions and recognizing that emotions are not you, but yours.
A meditation practice developed by CYE founder Ilchi Lee called Jigam teaches techniques to live beyond emotion and maintain inner peace and mental clarity when involved in an emotionally charged situation.
These techniques are rooted in sensing the energy that flows through us in order to become familiar with our own unique frequency. The more sincerely and intentionally focused you are, the stronger the observer within becomes.
Jigam Energy Sensation Meditation
Go to a quiet space where you can be alone, away from any distractions. Once you get settled in, take a few deep breaths to clear your mind.
-
Hold your hands in front of your heart a few inches from the chest, with palms facing each other. At the center of each palm is one of the strongest energy points in the body.
-
Close your eyes and begin to focus your attention on the center of each palm. Energy flows where the mind goes.
-
Pretend you’re holding a balloon and gently squeezing it and releasing it, bringing your hands closer to each other and then further apart - but never touching.
-
Pay attention to the changes you feel in the space between your hands and the palms.
The vibration of energy in your body may rise and you may feel a tingling, warm or cold sensation on the palms. This is sensing your energy and physically feeling it.
If you are having a hard time feeling the energy, it may be that your mind is too active or there may be an energetic imbalance in the 6th or 7th chakras. Try an invigorating yoga or meditate for 10 minutes before sensing your energy again to ensure your mind is at ease and open to connect.
But how does this help you live beyond emotion, and how are you supposed to apply this to your life? By sensing your energy and strengthening the connection between body and mind, you will be able to approach stressful or emotional situations from a place of deep grounding, self-love and acceptance.
Jigam can be used to combat stress at work, home and in life in general. When we are more grounded within, we are less affected by emotional waves and can observe the happenings in our lives without becoming overwhelmed.
Riding the waves of your emotions is difficult at first, but with mindful practice and self-acceptance, it will become easier.
