Are you looking for fun and quick ways to destress and unwind? ASMR,
one of the top trending topics on Youtube, can help you do just that with fun, “brain-tingling” videos and sounds.
ASMR stands for “Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response” and these videos consist of whispering or making specific noises into the microphone that stimulate the senses of the listener. People around the world use ASMR live videos as a method to help symptoms of stress,
insomnia, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and panic attacks.
How does ASMR work?
ASMR is described as a euphoric, relaxing experience that consists of specific auditory and visual stimuli to help the listener easily
go into a flow-like, meditative state. This is possible because ASMR has been
found to lower brain waves from beta waves, which is when the listener is alert and awake, to alpha waves, which is a state of relaxed concentration and creativity.
Some stimuli include listening to a whispering voice, listening to a quiet repetitive sound like scratching, or activities that require personal attention like getting a haircut or a back massage. ASMR is known to have a bigger effect with personal touch that happens around the head, neck, and upper back.
ASMR is created mostly through videos or binaural recordings. In videos, creators trigger the effects of ASMR through soft speaking, stop motion, or gentle movements. In binaural recordings, specific sounds are made for the left and right ears where the listener feels like they are in close proximity to the vocalist.
Possible Effects of ASMR:
- Tingling sensations
- Decrease in heart rate
- Deeper breathing
- Alleviation of pain in the muscles and joints
- Clear and relaxed mind
- Lighter mood
If you’ve never tried listening to ASMR videos, you may be weirded out at first. Many people are not used to the enhanced noises of people whispering or bags of chips crackling. But, many people find that ASMR definitely helps them fall asleep more easily and go into meditation faster. Try it out and see for yourself!
