Having healthy, balanced energy can turn your life around. Although the techniques for getting it are pretty simple, most people don’t know what having balanced energy looks and feels like, and they don’t know where to start.
A body with healthy and balanced energy has
Water Up, Fire Down energy circulation—hot fire energy flows down the front of your body and cool water energy flows up the back. For this ideal situation, your three main energy centers—one in your lower abdomen, one in the center of your chest, and one in the center of your brain—need to be full of clean, flowing energy.
But what happens when they aren’t? Knowing this makes it easier for you to recognize when your energy is out of balance.
People usually have one of three energy configurations in their body. These energy configurations are based on how much energy you have in each of your three main energy centers.
For example, if your energy is not flowing well through your middle energy center, energy can’t flow down from your head, so it pools there.
Too much energy in your head means extra thoughts and worries that you find difficult to stop. Physically, it can result in headaches and insomnia. You may even feel confused or your thinking may become cloudy, making it difficult to make good choices, have a high level of academic or professional performance, or have meaningful communication with other people.
Too much energy in the head creates an upside-down triangle energy configuration.
If the energy in your lower energy center is not flowing well or is insufficient, but your middle energy center is very open and full of energy, you are likely to be very emotional. Your emotions run your life, and you are emotionally hurt very easily. It’s difficult for you to find balance, and you may find yourself always being the giver to the people around you without enough self-care or healthy emotional boundaries.
Too much energy in the heart creates a diamond energy configuration.
If your energy is flowing through your energy centers well, your lower energy center acts as an energy magnet and a furnace. It’s the powerhouse of your energy system.
Energy in your body feeds this furnace and becomes purified in the fire there so that clean and pure energy can circulate throughout your body. Like the furnace of an old-fashioned train, the lower energy center provides the power your body needs to move, work, and act.
When energy accumulates in your lower energy center, your energy configuration is a triangle shape.
Which configuration seems the most stable to you?
The triangle shape is the most grounded and stable; the diamond and the upside-down triangle are ready to fall over. Having a triangle energy configuration will get you through life’s challenges and let your body work at its best.
When you develop your energy, therefore, I recommend starting with your lower energy center first. As energy accumulates and stabilizes there, your middle and then upper energy centers will clear, fill, and stabilize as well.
Exercises that target your lower energy center include holding postures such as
sleeping tiger,
abdominal breathing,
intestine exercise, and
tapping your lower abdomen. Daily practice of mind-body exercises will strengthen and solidify the energy in your lower energy center.
As you do these exercises, or even throughout your day, focus on your lower abdomen. Because energy flows to where your mind concentrates, keeping part of your attention on your lower energy center will make you feel more grounded throughout your day.
