Managing your energy is important for managing your life well. Many successful people have healthy habits that keep their energy flowing, full and balanced without knowing specifically about the concept of energy. However, by being conscious of how energy works in your life, you have more information and a greater ability to develop yourself and the life you want to have.
While you can shift your energy quickly and easily with the simple techniques I wrote about in
my last post, maintaining positive and healthy energy requires consistent practice and the formation of healthy habits. Some of these habits are common sense. To keep your body full of healthy energy, you need to get enough deep sleep, stay hydrated, eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise.
Other practical habits that generate positive energy in your life are getting rid of things and ideas you no longer use, acting and speaking with kindness, and setting challenging, but achievable goals for yourself.
Practices such as meditation make developing healthy habits easier. Long-time meditators have shown that you can control and choose the thoughts in your mind. They have also demonstrated that you can control the functions of your body with the thoughts of your mind. Meditation makes this possible because it creates an intense but relaxed focus combined with awareness.
You can train yourself to be aware of your body and mind’s processes. With this awareness, you will notice the brief moment of choice before you have a thought or take an action or even before you take a breath. In that moment, you can make a different choice. You can choose to compliment instead of criticize someone or eat a salad instead of cheesecake, for example.
The most well-known type of meditation is sitting while either focusing on one specific thought, sound, sight, or body function or watching your thoughts and emotions passively. Other forms of meditation are also effective:
- Moving meditations—shaking your body, moving freely, or holding certain postures—release tension, which prevents energy from flowing, and uses movement to help the mind focus.
-
Energy meditation involves focusing on energy, especially that of the body, and helps you sense and understand energy better.
-
Magnetic meditation is a form of energy meditation. Instead of the energy of the body, you focus on the energy of magnets to enhance your overall ability to sense energy.
Strengthening your body also strengthens your mind, leading to greater focus and ability to make healthy choices.
Performing active exercises such as sit-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks or squats whenever you feel fatigued or irritated pushes out negative energy and allows positive energy to come into your body, while at the same time increasing muscle mass and endurance. Doing these exercises for just one minute periodically during the day is an effective way to manage your energy and develop healthy habits.
In addition to these exercises and meditations, there are specific methods for gathering and circulating pure energy in your energy system such as
yoga,
qigong, and
chakra visualization. These forms of energy meditation open your energy points, channels, and centers so that energy can flow freely through them.
When you have enough pure energy circulating freely throughout your body, your body and mind function optimally and you are able to make beneficial choices which, over time, lead to healthy habits.
