"Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go."
—Hermann Hesse
Week 2: Courage
Welcome to an easy day of creation, the creation that stems from rest. Yes, "rest."
Often, despite the best of intentions, all of your efforts can leave you feeling further ensnared in the patterns of your old thinking. Sometimes you need to cease with your efforts and just rest. You don't need to seek peace; you only need to create the conditions for peace to naturally arise.
Let the energy flow through you and around you. Accept that your life is already changing.
No matter what you see in your circumstances, give yourself credit for the commitment you have made and kept. Even if you have slipped into old behaviors, please don't be too hard on yourself. Even while changing you may see signs of "your old thinking." Stick with it!
At this point, you already have confirmed and reconfirmed your willingness to change your thought patterns into something more fulfilling. Remember that much of your current circumstance may be the fruit of past thinking. Give your new thinking some room for system-wide adjustment.
"Rest" here does not mean that you stop living, acting or being. It means trusting yourself and your natural connection with the energy in you and around you. Be conscious of your thoughts and actions, without exercising your will over them. Don't fight the old things or force the new. Let it all flow and take shape.
If you only try "letting go" in your mind, it will not be easy. This is why meditation is such a valuable tool; it involves recognizing the mind as a component along with the body, the spirit and even the rest of the universe. The simplest form of meditation for letting go is through movement, but the most effective form of meditation for letting go is probably through breathing. Let's try both.
Meditation
Remember to make space for your vision for a new you to manifest. A good energetic exercise is to go through your closet and decide what really fits with your new vision of yourself and what doesn't. Keep what you like and give the rest away.
As you do this exercise, you are setting the stage for this pattern in other aspects of your life. This is letting go with a sense of purpose and joy.
You may also try this with your book collection, music collection or movie collection. This process may take more than one day to complete, but it is important to get started.
Sit
Wherever you are, first please sit down. You can meditate in any position, but it is best for your situation to be in a position that is both relaxed and alert.
To keep your back straight during meditation you may lean against a wall or pillow.
Look
Pick up your LifeParticle Card (or find a digital version at
ChangeYourEnergy.com); take 30 seconds to look at the LifeParticle Sun. This will help you shift your focus to what you want to achieve.
Breathe
Now close your eyes; take a deep breath and slowly exhale until you empty out your lungs. Relax your shoulders and breathe like this two more times.
Release
Keep your eyes closed and reflect on all of the things in your list. Relax your body and breathe in gratitude for each item.
Begin deep breathing again and with each exhale imagine something disappears from the room. Keep breathing and emptying the space around you for two minutes.
Finish
When you are done, shake your shoulders vigorously for 30 seconds to release any remaining tension. Do you feel lighter?
Now you can begin to feel free to release everything you know about your situation and get a fresh perspective.
Affirm
Now say the weekly affirmation out loud. If possible, look at yourself in the mirror.
"I am letting go and accepting change in my life. I trust that all is flowing in accordance with my highest good."
Follow Up
Whether walking, sitting or standing, take time today to practice this technique. Relax your shoulders and take a deep breath into your chest. Keep doing this for three minutes.
Do your best to just "listen" to what comes up in your mind; keep breathing in and exhaling slowly. Repeat at least three times during the day or the next day.
