Our bodies spend a lot of time doing things to stay healthy, even when we aren't noticing.
Our immune system is using immeasurable amounts of energy to keep us healthy in relation to the effort we consciously put into helping it. Yet, the key to improving our immunity is to bring presence and awareness to its process. We can feel this especially by bringing awareness to the temperature in our bodies.
You have your immune system to thank for working around the clock, defending you from illness, and sorting and organizing your body's energy load for peak performance. Yet, your immune system is not something that is separate from you. While it is a system of multiple agents, working together to keep your cells, tissues, and organs all working in harmony to maintain your perfect health, it is you who is chief orchestrator.
Without having to identify exactly which immunity action is at play in which part of our bodies, we can be aware of the existence of our own life force (you). The key indicator that this self-healing symphony is playing is body temperature.
When we notice our body heat and breathing with love, and without judgement, we can more easily take steps to bring it back in balance whenever it has drifted out of normal range.
Here are 10 more simple and natural ways to keep your body's immune system in tune with optimal energy:
- Practice gratitude - Practicing gratitude, actually praising yourself and your immunity for a job well done is like giving yourself a double dose of Qi. The praise feels good and motivates your body to keep giving toward the system that keeps you alive and thriving.
- Let your body express itself - Symptoms such as fever and inflammation may be uncomfortable but they are signs that your immune system is doing its job. Rather than suppress symptoms of your natural immune response, work with it. For example, instead of masking a fever with medication, let it run its course, (within a reasonably safe range, of course) and just make sure to drink plenty of water.
- Get your sleep - When we are sick, sleepiness is our immune system's way of telling us to slow down and rest, so that it can use its energy to heal and rejuvenate. If we deprive ourselves of sleep (less than 5 hours a day), we often don't allow our pineal gland to do its work of producing melatonin, a key component to our ability to ward off disease.
- Get some sunlight - Some exposure to sunlight (about 10 minutes on a sunny day) helps your immune system by producing Vitamin D. A wonderful way to give yourself your daily rays is with sunlight meditation.
- Eat nutritiously - Give your immune system plenty of fuel to fend against invaders with mineral and vitamin rich foods such as bone broth, hot peppers, leafy greens and fresh fruits.
- Arm yourself with adaptogens - Stress is the number one nemesis of a healthy immune system. Adaptogenic herbs such as Korean ginseng actually help your body adapt to stress rather than react to it.
- Get Your Solar Energy Charge - Solar energy helps you develop bright, warm energy right inside you. It also helps you have a positive influence on the people around you. Maximize your natural healing capacity with Solar Energy exercises such as Body Tapping, Intestinal Exercise (1,000+ per day), Sunlight Walking (Start with 1,000 steps and increase it up to 10,000 steps) and Whole Body Laughter (at least 10 mins.).
- Keep it a little dirty - Being too clean can inhibit your immune system from functioning properly. While you don't want to overwhelm your system with pathogens, it does need a few foreign germs to keep it in fighting shape.
- Help it digest -Your gut is filled with tons of bacteria that not only helps digestion but also works for your immune system. In fact, a strong, healthy bowel not only gives you more energy, it is your first line of defense against colds, flu and fatigue.
- Keep it calm - A hyperactive immune system can destroy healthy tissues. Lupus, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases are examples of an overactive immune system. You can keep it in balance by managing stress through breathing and movement exercises such as Yoga and Qigong, or even walking meditation. Taking a moment several times throughout your day to do a set of breathing exercises, even inhaling and exhaling just three times, will send a breath of fresh air throughout your entire body will help keep inflammation down and your spirits up!
