How to Maintain a Healthy Immune System

Every human body has the innate ability to fight disease. However, due to lack of understanding of the immune system and poor lifestyle choices, some may be experiencing unusually weaker immune systems than most. As a quick fix, many people turn to doctors and medication, which ironically can weaken their natural immune response even more and make them dependent on artificial chemicals to keep them healthy. This article will discuss how the immune system works and two ways to naturally raise the immune system for optimal physical health.

What is a Healthy Immune System?


The immune system is what keeps your body healthy and fights against disease, viruses, and bacteria. The difference between someone who has a weak immune system and someone with a healthy immune system is their ability to fight disease, which is evident by how often they catch a cold, get the flu, or get sick in general. If you’re someone who seems to always get sick, it may mean that your immune system is not being managed well.

There are two components that directly affect the power and efficiency of the immune system: temperature and circulation.

Raise Your Body Temperature
Your body is a sensitive, intricate, and complex organism. So intricate, in fact, that did you know that changing your body temperature by just 1℃ up or down can impact the immune system tremendously?

To maintain a healthy immune system, we need to look at the gut. Your gut controls 75% of your entire immune system. It also houses good and bad bacteria that can affect how your body fights disease. Bad bacteria multiplies from taking antibiotics and eating excess sugars and processed food. The interesting thing that not many people know about is the relationship between bad bacteria and temperature. Bad bacteria thrives in cooler internal temperatures, so if you regularly consume cold foods and drink ice water, you can easily weaken your immune system without realizing the damaging effects.

Small changes of raising your core body heat create a domino effect on how the cells react to and get rid of foreign invaders, viruses, and bacteria. Through maintaining a healthy diet with warming foods such as bone broth, hwangchil, and apples and doing daily exercise, you can keep your internal body warm so that your immune system can naturally become healthier.

Boost Your Circulation
Most of us sit for long periods of time at work and don’t move our bodies enough, which can cause energy and blood to stagnate and create poor circulation. If you can get your blood pumping through all parts of your body from head-to-toe, you can naturally raise your immune system. This can be done through simple full body circulation exercises, such as meridian stretching and joint rotating.
