Ascending Energy by Yesang Lee

There's a story you may have heard about some fish: An old fish sees a pair of young fish swimming by. "How's the water?" he asks them. As they swim on, one of the young fish says to the other, "What the heck is water?"

The young fish don't know what water is because it's the medium of their entire existence. They know nothing else. They never "encounter" the water, and it goes unseen.

We're not so different.

We also move through our own invisible medium every day—a current made of our thoughts and beliefs, emotional patterns and habits. We don't notice it as a current we swim in. It just feels like reality.

That current might be made of ambition or achievement, a sense of "not enoughness." Sometimes it's love, or duty, or the invisible labor of keeping everything afloat for the people around us. 

Sometimes it's self-doubt, or fear, or not believing that life supports and guides us.

We move through these patterns so naturally, so willingly, that we might not realize they're there. But beyond all of the "doingness" of life, something more true about life—and about who you are—has always been present. It's just hard to feel when you're always moving.

This is what Ascending Energy, by our newest artist Yesang Lee, is really about.

Look at the three fish. They're mid-leap, suspended between the world they've always known, and something beyond it.
