Artist Statement

My work begins with an invitation: to encounter one’s inner landscape through painting. The act of painting is not merely representation but reflection—a process of looking inward. Within this encounter, healing and awareness arise not as imposed outcomes, but as natural responses to attention.

I regard painting as a vessel for energy and consciousness. Traditional Korean aesthetics carry the wisdom of earlier generations, embedding aspirations for health, fortune, joy, and harmony within symbolic forms. Drawing from these visual languages, I reinterpret the inner processes of human experience in a contemporary context. Rather than remaining bound to a fixed tradition or stylistic orthodoxy, I approach Minhwa as a living language—an origin point from which form can expand freely.

I do not see the human being as something incomplete that must acquire in order to become whole. Instead, I consider each person as already existing in light and love. When the energies encountered in life are not suppressed but allowed to move, reality becomes something one participates in shaping. In that flow, choice emerges—not as control, but as awareness.

About Yesang Lee

Yesang Lee is a South Korea-based artist who explores the connection between energy and consciousness. Her work is shaped by a diverse background in economics, music, and fashion design, which brings a structured yet rhythmic perspective to her art.

From an early age, Yeesang Lee was preoccupied with fundamental questions: What am I? Why do I exist here? These inquiries did not remain abstract curiosities but became the starting point of a sustained spiritual journey.

In seeking understanding, the artist engaged with the teachings and writings of sages from both Eastern and Western traditions and, through meditation, began to examine the layers of her own existence—slowly, deliberately, as if peeling the layers of an onion. Each layer revealed a deeper awareness, a more refined inner perception.

Over time, this unfolding awareness and heightened inner sensitivity found expression through painting. In particular, Lee has worked with Korean Minhwa, reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens and her own intuitive sensibility. Rather than preserving tradition as fixed form, she transforms it into a living medium—one capable of articulating subtle states of consciousness and the evolving experience of being. She uses Minhwa as a visual language to study the flow of inner consciousness.

Currently moving from these classical roots toward a more liberated, contemporary expression, Lee explores the essence of "reality-creation" through professional-grade oriental watercolors and natural calcite. Her work transcends traditional boundaries, capturing the invisible light of the self with sophisticated technique.

With a proven track record of three solo exhibitions and multiple national art awards, Yesang Lee offers collectors a profound visual dialogue between ancient heritage and modern consciousness.
