How to Create a Meditation Space that Supports Your Spirit

There’s power in a meditation space that’s been created with intention. The moment you enter, your body already begins to soften and come into stillness. This kind of space is an energetic container where you can realign with the spirit of who you truly are.

To design a meditation space consciously is to build an atmosphere that supports your highest vibration and your deepest return to self. Every choice, from the colors, to the art, to the items you place before you, is a chance to influence your life at a deep level.

Here are some ideas for creating your meditation space:

1. Let Energy Art Set the Tone

Art connects to the subconscious mind and the spirit. It can shift your energy by opening your heart, calming your mind, or changing your vibration instantly.

Our Energy Art prints hold various energies of peace, clarity, empowerment, and light. You can choose one that speaks to where you currently are, or where you want to be. Hang it where your eyes naturally rest when you meditate and let it become an anchor to bring you back to your true nature.

You can even use a piece of energy art as a focus of your meditation. Gaze at it softly and connect to its meaning or its vibration. Or hold the image in your mind’s eye with eyes closed.

To soften the space, you can add a few of our throw pillows featuring Energy Art. They’re soft, tactile extensions of the energy of the art prints. When you settle in to meditate, you can rest against them and feel their frequency supporting you: alive, connected, and transformative.

2. Use Scent to Connect You More Deeply

The air you breathe can become part of your practice too, and with essential oils, you can impact your energy in seconds. A few drops of lavender or frankincense can invite calm and stillness, while citrus or peppermint awakens focus and vitality.

Our Bird of the Soul essential oil blend is a natural fragrance inspired by Ilchi Lee’s Bird of the Soul storybook. It smells like walking through an orange grove on a crisp, dewy morning, and is perfect to elevate your energetic state when you’re seeking joy or expansion. It’s available as mist, dropper, or roll-on

You can keep some oil readily available in your meditation space to create a ritual of infusing the air, or applying to yourself before meditating. Before you begin your meditation, you might pause and place a drop of oil on your palms. Rub them together, and cup them over your nose. Breathe deeply and feel your awareness drop into your body. This small ritual signals to your system that it’s time to return to presence.

3. Create an Altar

At the center of your meditation area, create a small altar, a dedicated place for focus and reverence. It doesn’t have to be ornate or religious, just what feels good to you. Think of it as an energetic focal point, a reminder of your connection to spirit and intention.

You might include a candle to represent light, a crystal or stone from the earth, a bowl of water for flow, or a feather for air and breath. You might also include images or photos of people or places that you love or that inspire you to connect to yourself more deeply.

This is also the perfect place to keep Meditation Cards. Each of these card sets carry a specific purpose in supporting your practice:

The 7 Chakras Energy Cards help you learn about and visualize specific chakras to balance and strengthen your energy.

The ChunBuKyung Wisdom Cards display each of the 81 characters of this ancient spiritual text, offering you messages of wisdom for your life or any question you have.

The Solar Energy Circuit Cards guide you into a powerful visualization where you’ll take in 12 circuits of cosmic energy for healing and recovering vitality on all levels.

You might also choose to display one or more cards as a daily or weekly focus. Over time, your altar will become charged with your devotion and presence.

4. Keep It Sacred and Simple

Your meditation space doesn’t need to be elaborate. What matters most is how it feels to you. Keep it clean, uncluttered, and alive with things that inspire the energy you want to feel. Over time, you might notice how your external environment mirrors your internal state, and how, by tending to one, you elevate the other.
