Introducing New Artist: Yesang Lee

This month, we warmly welcome artist Yesang Lee to the Change Your Energy gallery. If you follow our collections, you may already know that we feature the Minhwa (Korean folk) paintings of artist Meekyung Shin. Now, Yesang is our second artist working within this same tradition, bringing her own vision to it.

Minhwa as a Living Language

Minhwa painting carries a tradition of bringing wishes for health, fortune, and harmony into everyday spaces. Its symbols are generous and layered, drawn from the natural world. Animals, flowers, mountains, sky… each symbol holds specific positive intentions for the viewer and the household. It’s an art form made to be lived with.

Yesang honors this lineage, but she doesn’t feel bound by it. Her work adds something personal: an invitation to turn inward.

She approaches Minhwa as a living language. For her, it’s not a style to replicate, but an origin point, a set of roots from which something new can grow. In her work, plants and flowers, tigers, mountains, sun and moon all appear—familiar symbols, now reinterpreted through the lens of inner experience, and made new by the consciousness behind them.

The Questions That Started It All

Before Yesang was a painter, she was a seeker. From childhood, she carried many deep questions in her heart: What am I? Why am I here? The questions didn’t fade with time, only deepened, and they became the foundation of lifelong spiritual inquiry.

She explored the writings and teachings of sages across Eastern and Western traditions, and through meditation, she turned her attention inward. The process was unhurried and deliberate—like peeling the layers of an onion, she has said—each layer giving way to a subtler, more refined awareness.

It was this growing inner sensitivity that eventually found its fullest expression through painting.

Painting as a Vessel

Yesang describes painting as a vessel for energy, for consciousness, and for the kinds of inner experience that resist ordinary language. When she works, she’s not trying to represent the world as it appears. She is looking inward, and the painting is where that looking takes form.

What arises in that process—healing, awareness, a sense of deeper presence—she does not treat as something to be engineered or pursued. These things come naturally, she suggests, when attention is freely given. The painting doesn’t force an outcome. It holds the space for you to arrive.

The Wholeness Already Within You

Yesang’s view is that a human being does not need to acquire, improve, or become anything in order to be whole. We all already exist in light and love.

From that foundation, her paintings are like mirrors, reflecting something back to you that was always present. There’s nowhere you need to go. You just need to be

When energy moves freely—when it’s neither suppressed nor forced—awareness opens, and with it, the understanding that we are active participants in our own experience of life. That refined inner perception is the gift of Yesang’s art.
