About the Series

Welcoming Blessings

This series is not about sitting still and waiting for blessings to arrive. It is the act of stepping forward with a hopeful heart to welcome them.

Long ago, people inscribed symbols of longevity and good fortune with an earnest yet joyful wish for a hundred forms of well-being. That same spirit awakens again today at my fingertips.

Along the path to meet these blessings, I encounter a tiger, a bird, a horse, and a rabbit. Each carries its own story of good fortune, living freely together in harmony with the rhythms of nature. In the way they surrender to nature’s flow and breathe in harmony with one another, I discover scattered fragments of blessing.

For blessings are not a destiny bestowed upon us. They are a way of living—something we discover for ourselves in everyday life and cultivate with care.

The moment I stand before the woodblock and take the carving knife in my hand, the anticipation within me begins to take tangible form. The marks of the blade cutting deeply along the grain, and the traces of time accumulating layer by layer upon the woodblock, become the beautiful grain of happiness that we, too, must patiently build throughout our lives.

Today, once again, I go forth with joy to welcome all the blessings of the world—as though reaching out to take the hand of someone dear.

Original art in acryic ink on embossed wood panel, Swarovski.

Artist Statement

As someone trained in spatial design, I experience the world of minhwa as a place where time and dreams coexist.

It is an infinite space where anything imagined can come into being.

I weave time into my own narratives, creating minhwa as a vessel for imagination and breath. From my very first year of working with minhwa, the realm of time and dreams has taken root deep within me. In my work, time drifts freely across past and present, unbound by linear order.

My practice unfolds like a dream, shaping stories that exist beyond chronology. Endless imaginings of time and dream inhabit each work equally, without hierarchy.

This is how I see minhwa—and how I engage with its boundless, fantastical space: by sensing, interpreting, and sharing a world where imagination has no limits.
